1. Our commitment
Speros Consulting Limited, trading as Dr Susanna Pinkus, provides education and neurodiversity support to children, young people and their families. Because our work brings us into regular contact with children, young people and, at times, vulnerable adults, safeguarding their welfare is central to everything we do. This statement explains how we work to keep children and young people safe, and what we will do if we have a safeguarding concern.
2. Who this statement applies to
This statement applies to Dr Susanna Pinkus and to anyone working on behalf of Speros Consulting Limited. It covers all of our services, including consultations, assessments of learning and support needs, observations, direct work, coaching and mentoring, written reports, and liaison with schools and other professionals.
3. Our safeguarding principles
We are committed to:
- treating the welfare of every child and young person as our paramount concern;
- creating a respectful, safe environment in which children and young people are listened to and taken seriously;
- being alert to signs that a child, young person or vulnerable adult may be at risk of harm, abuse or neglect;
- responding promptly and appropriately to any safeguarding concern; and
- keeping clear, accurate and confidential records of any concern and of the actions we take.
4. Confidentiality and its limits
We treat the information you share with us confidentially and handle personal data in line with our Privacy Policy. We are registered as a data controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Confidentiality is not, however, absolute. We may need to disclose information without your consent where:
- we are required to do so by law, a court or a regulatory authority;
- we believe that you, your child or another person is at risk of serious harm;
- we have safeguarding concerns that a child or vulnerable adult is suffering, or is at risk of, significant harm, abuse or neglect; or
- it is necessary for the prevention or detection of serious crime.
Where it is possible and safe to do so, we will discuss any disclosure with you (and, where appropriate, with the child or young person) first. We may need to act without prior discussion where doing so would increase risk to any person or prejudice the prevention or detection of crime.
5. Our legal framework
We carry out our work in line with our safeguarding obligations, including those under the Children Act 1989 and the Children Act 2004. Where a concern arises, we will share information with the relevant authorities, such as children’s social care or the police, in accordance with these responsibilities.
6. Raising a safeguarding concern
If you have a safeguarding concern about a child or young person, please contact Dr Susanna Pinkus directly at pa@drsusannapinkus.com so that it can be addressed promptly.
If you believe a child or young person is in immediate danger, do not wait – call 999 straight away. You can also contact your local authority children’s social care team, or the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000.
7. Crisis and emergencies
Our services are not a crisis or emergency service and are not a substitute for medical care. If you or your child need urgent help, please contact your GP, call NHS 111, or in an emergency call 999 or attend A&E. You can also contact the Samaritans on 116 123, or Childline on 0800 1111 (for those under 19).
8. Working with others and continuing our services
With your written consent, we may liaise with your child’s school, university, clinicians and other professionals to support joined-up working and the best possible outcomes. We may suspend or end our services where continuing to provide them would place us in breach of our professional or safeguarding obligations.
9. Review
We review this statement regularly and update it as needed to reflect changes in guidance, legislation and our practice.
